Healthy Habits Lifeguards Should Practice

As COVID-19 continues to make an impact on our globe, we have taken time to think about how something like a pandemic can intersect with the role of a lifeguard. Lifeguards play a critical part in the safety and health of a community, so it’s a good time to go through healthy habits every lifeguard should practice while on duty.

1. Wash your hands often

You’re probably hearing a lot about washing your hands these days. We encourage you to take this seriously (washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, scrubbing underneath fingernails, etc.), and we empower you to implement this in your life even when we’re not in the face of a global pandemic. Washing your hands thoroughly is an easy way to contribute to the overall hygiene of your community.

2. Wear gloves when needed

The coronavirus has exposed us to masks and gloves, which is an important aspect of quelling the spread of the virus — and it reminds us of a way to stay protected from other viruses or infections that spread easily.

3. Have the right equipment

Whether it’s an extra pair of gloves or a first aid kit, we recommend that you always have your lifeguard equipment right by your side. You never know what you’ll need on duty, so it’s best to be as prepared as possible.
