How To Work Off That Thanksgiving Meal: Lifeguard Style

Turkey Day is on the way. Across the country, families are getting ready to gather, give gratitude, and FEAST. We love feasting, but we know all about the ‘food coma’ that often follows a big turkey and carb-loaded meal. For lifeguards who need to stay on their A-game for Thanksgiving weekend, read on for our tips to burn off the calories quickly.

1. Drink water.

This may not float to the top of your list, but here’s why it’s important. Drinking water in between each bite at the Thanksgiving table ensures that you don’t overeat or eat too quickly. Water helps fill you up as you fill up on mashed potatoes and Grandma’s green bean casserole, so you end up eating a more moderate amount of food.

2. Rest up.

It’s usually pretty easy to rest after a big Thanksgiving meal, so this one should come with no burden. If you want to generate energy — and burn off the rest of your meal — after Thanksgiving, it’s important you take the latter part of your Turkey Day to sleep so you’ll wake up refreshed.

3. Pick your favorite workout for Friday.

Friday is when the dust settles, so you’ll want to target Friday for your big workout day. Here’s the thing: If you’re moving slowly following Thanksgiving, pick your favorite workout and your favorite time to exercise. Forcing yourself into a workout that you hate will only make you want to time out early. Choose something active that motivates and excites you, chug a healthy energy drink, and get to work.

4. Turn leftovers into salads, not sandwiches.

Leftover sandwiches are so 2021. This year, you can stay healthy while conserving your Thanksgiving resources by making a nutrient-packed salad. Try slices of turkey on a bed of lettuce with a side of sweet potatoes. Or, consider a rice bowl with green beans, turkey, and any other veggies from your Thanksgiving feast.

Our last Thanksgiving tip: If you haven’t started shopping, get to it. Before you know it, stores are going to be sold out. Until then, enjoy prepping for the big day and eating a big feast — you deserve it.
