5 Essentials Every Lifeguard Should Have for COVID-19
Lifeguarding in the middle of a global pandemic is not easy. There’s no playbook because we’ve never gone through something like this before. But we still need lifeguards at the beaches and pools that are open. If you’re still working as a lifeguard, here are five COVID-19 essentials you should have to make sure you’re prepared for anything that might come your way.
1. BVM First Aid Kit
You should always have a first aid kit on you no matter what, but with COVID-19, it’s important that you also always have a bag valve mask. A bag valve mask is a manual resuscitator. It allows you to perform CPR rescues without employing the traditional CPR mouth-to-mouth contact.
2. Social distancing stickers
Remind everyone of the rules: Keep your distance at all times! We have stickers to mark standing positions for managing lines and social distancing reminder stickers. Pick whichever one works best for you — or get both!
3. Gloves
When performing rescues, you’ll want to keep your hands covered with a pair of sterile gloves. And of course, don’t forget to always wash your hands and use hand sanitizer — even after using gloves!
4. Neck gaiter-face mask
You should be wearing a mask at all times for your sake and for the sake of your beach or pool visitors. We recommend getting a mask that is comfortable and has high coverage, like this one!
5. Hand wipes
You can never sanitize your hands enough! Grab a pack of hand wipes and keep them in your lifeguard fanny pack at all times.
