5 Lifeguard Equipment You Need at Your Facility
There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes at an aquatic center or public pool. From public safety to offering amenities, it’s important that facilities know what to offer to swimmers. Here are five pieces of equipment that should be at every pool facility:
1. Lifeguard Chair
Lifeguards can’t stand all day long—that would be exhausting! Every lifeguard needs a chair that sits high enough so that they have a birds-eye view of what’s going on. Typically, these chairs are large and bright so that lifeguards can be spotted easily, but you’re free to pick a non-traditional chair
2. Sunscreen
We’re all guilty of forgetting sunscreen every once and a while, and that’s why it’s a good idea to have sunscreen readily available at a public facility. To make things easy, get a sunscreen dispenser to hold your bottle of sunscreen!
3. Life Vests
It’s important to have life vests for all sizes because you never know who will need a life vest on any given day. It’s especially important to have child life vests, as they are usually the first swimmers to go for a life vest. At some pools, it’s a requirement for kids!
4. First Responder Bag
Proper CPR and first aid equipment are critical to the safety of your pool or aquatic facility. Every lifeguard should be trained in first aid and CPR, and they should have a first responder bag right next to them at all times.
5. Rescue Throw Bag
Lifeguards are agile, but they may be far away from someone who needs to be rescued, and in those cases, it’s a good idea to have a rescue throw bag. This comes in handy at large pools or aquatic facilities with multiple swimming areas.
